Freud's ideas

I took a special liking to the section in the textbook about Freud's psychosexual stages. I believe he built a good foundation for psychoanalytical theory.  I also enjoyed Erikson's ideas as well since they were very much parallel. I think it was a very clever for him to think of the idea of physical stimuli being a direct correlation of how different age groups behave and mature. One of my critics of mine though is that I don't think that every individual goes completely through each stage such as the phallic stage or that some stages may be over a longer or shorter time periods. Freud and Erikson's ideas merged together I feel would be a better fit for Freud's ideas. I think Freud made awesome points but needed to go more in depth with each developmental stage.
Another point that struck me in a positive way about Freud's ideas is that he believed there was conflict within each stage(pg 37). I can conclude that this would be true since you see children heading off to Kindergarten for the first time having trouble separating from their parents. I have also seen conflict within the Adolescence stage due to trying to fit in and finding their identity.
